||Four Night- Alaska Wilderness Treehouse Adventure
As seen on "Treehouse Masters" with Pete Nelson in 2014
The trip starts with a Bush flight from Anchorage via float-plane to the wilderness of the Alaska Range, where we land on a ridgetop lake 2 miles from our destination. The plane returns to Anchorage and you will be guided through a rough and wild landscape to a place where there are no neighbors, no other cabins- just pristine wilderness. This hike necessitates a wade across a very large creek, and is only for the reasonably fit type of person. With a grand view of the mountains enjoy the silence of the comfortably rustic treehouse. I built and lived in it as I learned the land to decide where to build my cabin- now located nearby.
During your visit, there are many possible activities I can tailor to your desires. There is great hiking, typically good fishing, and frequent wildlife in the area. I will be available to guide you and suggest activities for your personal interest. This is an absolutely unique experience that very few have had the opportunity to take advantage of- I am not often available to offer this excursion.
The lake we have flown into is large enough to land in but too small to fly out from with any passengers, so on departure day we'll float by raft four miles to our take-out. There we cache the raft up in a tree (to be retrieved in winter by snowmobile) and hike an hour to a larger lake where our plane will pick us up for the return flight to Anchorage.
Price is based on two people, and covers Bush Flights to and from the isolated location, treehouse lodging, wholesome delicious meals, and personal guide. ||Backpacking "Valley of 10,000 Smokes", Katmai NP
BACKPACKING IN KATMAI'S "VALLEY OF 10,000 SMOKES"
Located 240 miles southwest of Anchorage on the Alaska Peninsula, the "Valley of 10,000 Smokes" (VTTS) was created by one of the greatest volcanic eruptions of all time. The three-day eruption in June of 1912 forever altered the landscape- Mt. Katmai all but disappeared - and a unique, multi-hued valley of ash deposits now offers a modern day explorers delight. Cut through by deep canyons, the VTTS is in the heart of one of the world's most volcanically active areas. A wild, elemental landscape, Mt. Katmai, Mt. Griggs, Trident, Novarupta, Mt. Mageik and Mt. Martin, are all glacier capped steaming volcanoes grouped at the valleys head. It is an extremely wild and rugged land where the earth's raw forces are exposed, the only sounds being the roar of the rivers, the rush of the winds, and the hiss of steam vents. An awesome primeval place, where the earth is being born and the land rises to over 7600 feet from the deep blue waters of Shielikof Straight.
As your guide, I can show you these wonders like few others can. My familiarity with this area began during the mid 80's, when I guided day tours as a naturalist. My interest in this area led me to spend months exploring its vast reaches and surrounding country. I have returned to Katmai National Park every year since to share the wonders of this unique landscape with others. Participants need only to be in good condition with a desire for adventure. Our philosophy is not to focus toward the destination, but to experience what is along the way.
