||Bear Viewing in Katmai NP Alaska
Alaska’s Katmai National Park hosts a high-density population of the largest brown bears in the world. In the fall, the bears congregate along the 1.5-mile long Brooks River, which boasts the only autumn salmon run in the area readily accessible to both bears and humans. Flowing near snow-capped mountains, spruce forests, and sub-arctic tundra, the Brooks River is world renowned for its bear viewing possibilities. Over sixty bears are known to fish each fall along its short length.
The Brooks River area offers a full range of photographic opportunities: along the riverbank, in the forests, among the high, rolling, fall-colored hills, on the shores of Naknek Lake, and along the Brooks River corridor. The late season means peak fall colors, a low-angle sun with excellent and variable lighting, long sunrises and sunsets, and outstanding alpenglow.
Offered here is a unique opportunity to observe, photograph, and experience these awesome bears as they return for their annual feast prior to winter hibernation. The lateness of the season means fewer people are in the area.
As your guide, I can assure you a high quality experience with frequent encounters with bears. I have a thorough knowledge of the Katmai area and its bears. I have lived in Katmai and have returned annually to lead tours here since 1986. An intimate experience with bears in a small group setting awaits those who join.
Wilderness camping skills are not required. We provide everything you need for a comfortable camping experience. The meals are wholesome and delicious. Evenings are spent around a campfire, reviewing the day’s events, making plans, and telling stories.
Group size is limited to 6, with a minimum of four. THE OPPORTUNITY IS AS INCREDIBLE AS IT SOUNDS!!
All flights from Anchorage to Katmai and back, tents and therm-a-rests, camp meals, cook gear and related camping items.
