Rafting the Copper River in Wrangell St. Elias N.P

Through the Mountains to the Ocean

With two major glaciers that drop icebergs into its fast, strong current, the Copper River flows from Alaska's Interior through the Chugach Mountains and Wrangell- St.Elias National Park into the Gulf of Alaska. Although quite swift, the Copper River is a non-whitewater rated class II wilderness river. No previous rafting experience is necessary.

Our adventure starts with a drive from Anchorage through the Matanuska Valley, over Eureka Summit, and past the Drum, Sanford, and Wrangell Volcanoes to our "put-in" at Chitna. This small village at the confluence of the Copper and Chitna Rivers is the prime entry way into Wrangell- St.Elias National Park, the largest park in North America.

The first nights' camp is just past the narrow defiles of Wood canyon, at the base of Spirit Mountain. We then float through a wild land of mountains, hanging glaciers, bald eagles and bears. Hikes and stops to explore and look around include the Bremner Sand Dunes and a half-day hike up on Miles Glacier. The thundering roar of calving icebergs bring forth the presence of the earth's raw forces in action. This is paired with plentiful wildlife viewing opportunities.

After dinner and a night's hotel in Cordova, we finish off the tour with a midsummer sailing on the Alaska State Ferry through Prince William Sound, arriving early in the afternoon in Whittier to meet our ride back to Anchorage.

INCLUDED: All Transportation to and from Anchorage. All meals are provided except dinner in Cordova and meals on the ferry. Also included are dry-bags and other related rafting gear, tents and therm-a-rests, and camp gear.

NOT INCLUDED: Sleeping bags, proper clothing, rain gear, personals, alcohol meals in Anchorage and gratuities.
*Price based on 6 participants. Participation with camp chores required
